Murwillumbah Arts Precinct strategic review

Murwillumbah Arts Precinct strategic review

Hawkridge Entertainment Services were engaged by the Murwillumbah Arts Precinct (known as M|Arts) to complete the Murwillumbah Arts Precinct strategic review. The review involved identification and preliminary assessment of infrastructure and flood/disaster mitigation measures including impacts on business continuity. In addition, we completed an assessment of strategic options, structural (infrastructure) options and management options as well as undertaking a review of business operations including analysis of resource requirements.

The review outlined a number of recommendations to increase the flood resilience of the M|Arts
Precinct.

M|Arts Precinct

The M Arts Precinct, also is a vibrant cultural hub located in the heart of Murwillumbah, New South Wales. The precinct is dedicated to showcasing and promoting the region’s vibrant arts community and providing opportunities for creative expression and cultural exchange. The precinct is situated on the corners of Proudfoots Lane, Brisbane Street and Wollumbin Street, just a short walk from the town’s main shopping and dining precinct. Artist Studios are a key feature of the M-Arts Precinct with 17 individual studios throughout the Precinct, many of them architecturally designed shipping containers, all at ground level.

These provide affordable space for artists to create and exhibit their work, designed to enable them to pursue their creative endeavours in a supportive environment and make a living. The resident artists make up the majority of the 30+ tenants (a cross section of painters, ceramicists, jewellery designers, photographers), a bookstore, a cheese-maker, art supply shop, picture framer, a cinema, stage and gallery areas as well as a TAFE photographic classroom and artist studio (for exposing students and their art to the public) all have access to the precinct’s facilities and services.

The success of the M-Arts Precinct highlights the importance of investing in cultural infrastructure and
supporting the development of local creative industries. The precinct provides a valuable space for
artists and creatives to come together, share their work, and develop their skills. It has also helped to
promote the Tweed Shire region as a destination for cultural tourism, attracting visitors from across the
region and beyond.
