EY engaged Hawkridge Entertainment Services to provide strategic advice and outline the potential governance structures for the Nabatean Theatre entertainment & events complex project in AlUla, Saudi Arabia.

The Nabatean Theatre entertainment and events complex is a proposed precinct of large, medium and intimate outdoor venues, facilities, and immersive spaces. The Project extends the legacy of heritage performing and visual arts in AlUla, with traditional and contemporary interpretations, attract world-class performances and programmes, and expand the audience for local productions. The Nabatean Theatre aims to commence operations in 2027 and be fully operational by 2035.

Vision 2030 outlines the critical role of culture in improving quality of life in the Kingdom. Developed by the Saudi government as a strategic framework, Vision 2030 aims to reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil, diversify its economy, and develop public service sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, recreation, and tourism. The Quality of Life (QoL) Program is one of the Vision 2030 Realization Programs. Launched during 2018, the strategic intent aims to improve the ‘lifestyle’ and ‘livability’ of individuals, families, and communities within the Kingdom.

Unveiled in 2021, AlUla’s Masterplan (“Journey Through Time” or “Masterplan”) seeks to restore and rehabilitate the main archaeological area in AlUla. Through the implementation of the Masterplan, AlUla contributes to the realization of Vision 2030 by reinvigorating it as a tourism destination and catalyzing economic diversification in the region. Improving quality of life for residents and visitors, boosting employment opportunities and accelerating the development of the region’s cultural and tourism infrastructure.
