Hawkridge Entertainment Services completed the Minerva Theatre Strategic Review in August and September 2021. It’s aim was to further investigate whether a refurbished Minerva Theatre would be able to be successfully transformed into a viable performance space in the Sydney market.
Additional site analysis was undertaken by the team (Hawkridge Entertainment Services, Scott Carver and Networked Urban Solutions) to confirm that a refurbished theatre can accommodate a seated audience of 1,000. As part of the stakeholder engagement process, major Australian theatre producers outlined 1,000-seats as the optimal number of seats they believed the theatre needed to be viable.
The analysis reviewed the site specifically considering the following elements:
- Seating;
- Heritage;
- Foyers;
- Public Amenities;
- Stage;
- Performer Spaces;
- Dock;
- Services; and
- BCA.
In addition, the review examined and compared the physical features of theatres of similar size. Further, theatres where productions of the size that are likely to fit in the Minerva Theatre have played were analysed. The review also outlined construction costs, provided by WT Partnership.
