Wollondilly Shire Council recently approved the concept design for the new Picton Performing Arts Centre. The Performing Arts Centre will be a 350-seat multi-format venue to be included in stage one of the Wollondilly Community Cultural and Civic Precinct masterplan.
Hawkridge Entertainment Services assisted Wollondilly Council by completing a Strategic Review of the Performance Space required. Initially, HES analysed the current venues and hirers in the region.
Subsequently HES analysed the potential new hirers of the space to understand venue technical requirements. Further, HES then outlined in detail what the space should comprise in the back of house and front of house facilities, the technical requirements and the stage size. HES also provided recommendations for design elements not currently outlined.
In addition, the final report completed by HES provided the proposed business objectives both in the short and long term and outlined the organisational/management structure. Furthermore it established a draft annual budget to reflect estimated ongoing costs for council.
The main uses for the spaces were as follows:
- Dance performances
- Theatre performances
- Contemporary music performances
- Classical music performances
- Comedy performances
- Small school events
- Community events
- Dinners, cabaret and catered events
- Civic functions and public lectures
Construction of the Performing Arts Centre is expected to begin by June 2022.
